The Problem

You have feelings. Lots of them. About songs, mostly. Sometimes about games or which franchise movie is "found wanting".

But when someone asks "what's your favorite song by this artist?" your brain does that thing where it immediately forgets every song you've ever heard. You panic. You say something safe like, "oh I like all of them" which is both a lie and cowardly. (Even for the Skeleton Clique)

We get it. Having opinions is exhausting.

The Solution (Allegedly)

RNKL engages you to make decisions using a custom merge sort algorithm, (which sounds intimidating) but it really just means that you choose between two things, over and over and over and over, until you've accidentally RNKL'd an entire discography.

It's like therapy but for people who have strong obsessions about their obsessions.

What You Can RNKL

RNKLscape: Full artist music catalogs. Deep cuts you forgot existed. That one Christmas single from 2009. Franchises, all kinds, all shapes and sizes. Niche fandoms. The topics are endless.

RNKLets: Quick meta experiences for when you want to feel something but don't want to commit. Daily challenges. Weird vibes. Uncomfortable questions. In and out in five minutes.

RNKLzone: Matchups that probably seem like a good idea at 2am. Tournament brackets. Consensus building. The usual chaos.

Why Though

Honestly? We're not sure anymore.

It started as a way for one of us to definitively RNKL the Twenty Øne Piløts discography (Breach is their current #1, go RNKL your own list, and leave theirs alone) and spiraled into whatever this is. Turns out people enjoy the mild stress of choosing between two things they love.

Also the CRT aesthetic slaps.

The Technology

We use a merge sort algorithm because it's efficient and makes us sound smart at parties. It asks fewer questions than other sorting methods, which means less time questioning your life choices, but somehow manages to get most of your list correct. (We've included adjustment arrows at the end in case you somehow changed your mind during the process.)

All your data lives in your browser's local storage, which is a fancy way of saying we're too lazy and too poor to build a database. Also your rankings are none of our business and between you and your maker.

Who Made This

A couple of people with strong opinions about how we should effectively spend our free time. That's really all you need to know.

If you want to yell at us, praise us, or suggest we add your favorite obscure fixation to RNKLscape, there's a contact page somewhere around here.

Is This Legal

We don't host any of the topics. We don't claim to own any of the content you're interacting with. We're just providing the existential crisis framework.

All artist names, song titles, IP, and related content belong to their respective owners. We're just fans with a website and questionable judgement.

Final Thoughts

Look, you're still reading this, which means either you're procrastinating or you're genuinely interested. Either way, we appreciate you.

Go RNKL something. Have a hot take. Regret your choices immediately. That's the RNKL experience.
